SuSy internship Jessie McLaughlin at MDT Stockholm

In the frame of the SuSy activity, MDT Stockholm welcomes the emerging dance administrator Jessie McLaughlin to get first hand experience in an internationally working dance institution. Jessie McLaughlin is involved in various administrational tasks of Life Long Burning activities implemented by MDT Stockholm.

Jessie McLaughlin is a cultural worker, visual artist, writer and researcher from London, U.K. Currently, they are doing an AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) funded PhD with Goldsmiths (University of London) and Tate looking into queering and decolonising the art museum by working with and alongside young people.

MDT had an open call for a production intern in the frame of SuSy and Life Long Burning in April 2020. The response was great with a lot of very qualified applications. After several interviews we hired Jessie McLaughlin - a cultural worker, visual artist, writer and researcher from London, U.K. Currently, they are doing an AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) funded PhD with Goldsmiths (University of London) and Tate looking into queering and decolonising the art museum by working with and alongside young people. Jessie is now based in Stockholm and can strengthen MDT’s organisation with their knowledge and experience, as MDT can offer Jessie a platform to get to know the Swedish art community and experience in dance production.

Jessie have been working with specific projects and productions, as well as being a part of analyzing MDT’s organisation and working methods – a process that we are in the middle of since our new theatre director started in 2020. Jessie has been a crucial colleague in that work.

Jessie worked with two Life Long Burning/Creative Crossroads co-productions – Ofelia Jarl Ortega’s “Hegemony” and BamBam Frost’s “YES”.

The collaboration worked really well, and Jessie will return as an employee at MDT in March 2021.
