Love, Prejudice and Enta Omri
a Performance Situation Room workshop by Qalqalah
قلقلة, with Mounira Al Solh

Invitation by the Exerce Master degree and the ICI-CCN within the context of the Exerce master and Biennale des arts de la scène en Méditerranée initiated by Théâtre des 13 vents – CDN de Montpellier.

In dialogue with the Excerce Choreography Master degree, the artistic, editorial and curatorial research platform, Qalqalah قلقلة, invites artist Mounira Al Solh to co-compose a 3-day workshop around concepts of prejudice, fantasy, desire and words of love associated with the languages we speak (or not), the words we use, the accents we cultivate or which contaminate us, and the voices and bodies which are the vectors.

Mounira Al Solh's work takes the form of videos and video installations as well as paintings, drawings, embroidery and performance movement. Often tinted with humour, her work combines confusion and disorientation, but also the comic potential and capacity for creation which bloom between languages. Qalqalah قلقلة, an artistic, editorial and curatorial research platform in three languages (French, Arabic and English) relies on translation as a grounded critical and poetic tool.

The workshop was inspired (among others) by the 3rdissue of NOA Magazine(co-edited by Jacques Aswad), entitled On Words, Prejudice, Schizophrenia and Enta Omri, published in 2015. Founded by Mounira Al Solh in 2008, NOA (Not Only Arabic)is only delivered to audiences via "performance gestures", thus disrupting traditional modes of access to and reception of, an editorial project. For issue number 3, no longer available today, nearly forty contributors shared their personal lexicon of terms associated with prejudice or preference, in Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, English, French, Portuguese, Japanese, etc., accompanied by subjective definitions. Through discussions and individual/collective exercises, workshop participants are invited to compose a new lexicon and then to perform it, by exploring the emotional and political connotations of work "between languages".
