PSR Polygon

The residency and funds invested in the production of a dance performance for children and young adults by Larisa Lipovac Navojec–“POLYGON”.

The production of POLYGON started in August 2019 during a residency on the Island of Vis and continued in September at PC TALA in Zagreb. Throughout six weeks we created elements relating to the following topics: attention, collaboration, support, tolerance. Thanks to the contribution of the co-authors Žak Valenta and Ivana Pavlović and the dramatist Aleksandra Janeva Imfield, Larisa Lipovac Navojec, the author, created a play for school children (7-10 years old).

Polygon is a figure resulting from connecting at least three dots/three performers in a single space. The plot, the action, the play and movements take place within this space. This is a space that allows movements that are following a set of rules defined through an interactive play. These rules are set as a result of an interaction between the performers and the audience during the performance. 

They are entitled to set the rules, to modify the course/sequence of the play, to take part/engage in an individual scenic game. This is a story about the body and an individual, about relationships and support within a group, about limitations and overcoming obstacles. 

The final premiere took place on October 24, 2019, at 6 p.m. in primary school Ivana Gundulića in Zagreb, as a part of the KLIKER LLB Convention, Zagreb. The performance took place in the Sports Hall since polygons are a constituent part of the P.E. and school curriculum. However, here we use it for a theatre play that calls for movement and facing challenges. The youngest school children that interactively participated in the performance experienced the chosen topics firsthand. A workshop with the audience followed the performance. It included working with worksheets/exercises (enclosed with this report) that are a constituent part of the play. Such a format of play is designed for further elaboration of the messages of the play and a deeper insight through a practical application.
