PSR Greenhouse "KAS"

PSR Greenhouse "KAS"

GREENHOUSE’s first edition took place on Tuesday 21 January. GREENHOUSE (working title) is a new recurring format of the development platform of NB projects, Keren Levi, Boogaerdt/VanderSchoot, BAU Amsterdam and Veem House for Performance. GREENHOUSE addresses artistic questions and the network’s current topics.

GREENHOUSE is an evening of lectures, performances, installations, discourse, conversations and encounters.

This first edition of GREENHOUSE will center around the Veem residency of Rob Smorenberg (1993), who graduated from the Mime School at the Amsterdam Academy for Theatre and Dance. Rob is researching the corporeal mime of Etienne Decroux (1898-1991), the founder of modern mime. His social-economic figures are part of the ‘mime corporel’. They demonstrate how humans functioned at that time (the 1930s) and how they related to their environment. The physical drudgery of working with bulky machines, the mechanical and repetitive movements of industrialization and the stateliness of the ruling class.

Rob’s research is aimed at translating these figures into the present in order to depict mankind’s daily life in the year 2020, entirely in the style of Etienne Decroux.

His residency coaches are Suzan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot. In this edition of GREENHOUSE - KAS Rob shared with us the first step of his research. He was joined by other artists to discuss the research and what it means to take the body as the starting point of a performance.

The evening resonated well with the attending audience. Rob Smorenberg experienced the evening as a nice contextualisation to his research. The expertise of Marijn de Lange and presentation by Susan Boogaerdt and Bianca van der Schoot helpen in sharing his research towards an audience.
