Choreographic Convention #4 – Zagreb

The fourth Choreographic Convention is taking place from October 23 – 26 in Zagreb, hosted and organised by the network partner Tala Dance Center, in the frame of Kliker Festival.

In October 2019, within KLIKER Festival of dance, movement and play for children and youth in Zagreb, Tala Dance Center is organizing a Choreographic Convention, together with artistic organization VRUM and KLIKER platform.

IMPLEMENTATION

The Choreographic Convention program included lectures, panels, workshops, presentations of works, promotional activities and activities relating to relevant local scenes, as well as performances and events intended for children and young adults. Participants with versatile backgrounds were given an opportunity to present their work: international experts, educators, expert lecturers, as well as the local community. As it was a regional (local) convention, the emphasis was not on the professional scene exclusively, but also the general public, as well as professionals working with children in any format. The Convention raised awareness relating to numerous positive impacts of dance as an everyday activity in the lives of children. It also provided many examples of good practices that were presented by international guests. Exceptional performances, innovative approaches, professionalism and high quality of performing once again proved that we have excellent dancers and educators dedicated and committed to educating new generations of dancers and educators.

ASSESSMENT:

The KLIKER LLB Convention activities were entirely and successfully implemented. The community of dance educators and performers, as well as educators in general, recognized the value of such an event. The interest they showed in the topic confirmed that there is a high demand for initiatives in this field.

The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of dance for a healthy physical, emotional and psychological development of children and about the need to include the dance in everyday educational structure. Inclusion of dance in the school and kindergarten curriculum is the ultimate aim.

The event received enormous media attention and the city of Zagreb can be proud of the quality and versatility of the event, as well as of innovations in implementing project activities. Four days were dedicated to dancing in the streets, theatres, kindergartens and schools with wide media coverage.

THE TIMEFRAME OF ACTIVITY IMPLEMENTATION:

THE PROJECT STRUCTURE WAS ORGANIZED IN SEVERAL STAGES:

May1- July 15, 2019 – In this stage, once a week we focused on the preparation of activities, as well as on designing and producing contents; this period was also dedicated to identifying demands and goals of a unique professional convention in the Republic of Croatia and the Region, as well as elements of organization of a high-quality event. This period was also reserved for negotiating and securing logistics, venues for performances, as well as organizing technical support.

July 15 - September 9, 2019 – Activities in this stage included preparation of visuals and PR materials. A substantial amount of time was also dedicated to defining the strategy of the PR approach and considering the means and ways of attracting as many users as possible.

September 15 – October 22, 2019 – In this stage, final preparations, as well as details relating to accommodation and transport, were defined. Every day, full-time, our activities were dedicated to promotional activities and communication with guests, lecturers and performers. Additionally, we distributed PR and other production materials.

October 23 – October 26,2019–The KLIKER LLB Convention in Zagreb. The planned program was fully realized with exceptional results. We made an important step forward where the promotion of contemporary dance as an educational method and an everyday activity in the lives of children is concerned.

October 26 – November 30, 2019– As planned, this stage was dedicated to accounting activities, results overview, comprehensive PR announcements (more than 100 press releases!), report generation and assessment of the entire project.

LIST OF PROJECT USERS:

The Convention was attended by teachers, educators, school and kindergarten principles, dancers (dancers and choreographers), dance educators, dance therapists, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and theatre producers.
