« UNREST »

A Phillippe Grandrieux performance and film

Piece available for diffusion / around 60’ in length

After White Epilepsy and Meurtrière, Unrest is the third opus of a trilogy that brings us closer to a body that seems like it has been brought back from olden times. An archaic body we don’t know but that nonetheless projects its shadow, its inquiétude, within us. This trilogy’s topic is the simple form of life.[1]

Each opus is made up of a performance and a movie.

« You can only film the forces that act on and through bodies. Thus, each opus of the trilogy has developped a unique force through which the bodies have been shaped and imposed upon a way of being :   the force of mating in White Epilepsy, the force of beat in Meurtrière. The force acting in Unrest, the force we need to face to get access to this archaic and molecular body, I would name the force of annihilation. It’s the force we can experience in the moments we loose ourselves the most, like pleasure, so well called « petite mort » (small death).

Philippe Gandrieux

[1] The Greeks meant the simple form of life (zôè) as the only act of living, common to every living being (animals, human beings or gods). This life is distinct from the considered life (bios) which indicates the form or the way of living that’s proper to an individual or a group.
