Work-in-progress Presentation "Transaction" by Mitkhal Alzgair
Images have become commonplace. Some entertain us, others inform us, still others are thrown at us like grenades whose blast we simply do not want to hear. Some are unwatchable due to the aversion, the horror that we feel when faced with them, and disappear to serve the political system. Others are shown over and over again by the media until they are stripped of all humanity, disembodying bodies that are already dead, concealing the subject behind the imago. Some are unshowable as sometimes reality cannot coexist with our reality. Others still are invisible.
How is it that today we can create images, show the world what is happening – political violence, the reality of the murders faced with a world of silence, the inertia of our global system? How to show the unrepresentable, to make visible what we cannot touch because we are blinded?
I tried to open up a choreographic space where I could achieve balance and convergence between two parallel lines – reality and art. To create images that whisper to better hear the cries of horror that they conceal.
