Wild Card residency Christoph Perl in Vienna

During his residency from July 1 to August 16, 2015 in the frame of the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna, Christoph Perl researched under the theme “Performative Miniaturen- Relokalisierung/Wiederaufnahme”. He defines them as everyday life reflecting movement and language samples that are inscribed in daily life itself. They are analysing improvisations that are connecting with each other in existing contexts and structures and are expanding the fields of perception and possibility of situations.

In the frame of the ImPulsTanz Festival that is happening in the city of Vienna, these performative miniatures work in the space between the public visibility and the artistic demands of the festival and try to intensify the relation between stage, workshops and public spaces. Further they try to redefine the relation between the bodies of those participating in the festival and those living in Vienna – a relation that is normally imprinted by the classic stage-audience separation.
In collaboration with the teachers, dancers and performers of the festival short improvisations were developed that inscribed themselves in the reality of the cityscape while at the same time they were questioning it and making the raptures and boundaries in it visible. Within the festival recurring questions and discussions about the relation between the body, space, the public and (re)presentations were put in contexts of the public space within these short improvisations.
Together with Jennifer Lacey and Alice Chauchat, the initiators of the teachback session 2015 in Vienna (that was at the same time the danceWEB Scholarship mentorship collective 2015), Christoph Perl discussed the questions about pedagogical possibilities of teaching dance in the public space. In doing so, they created experimental modules that formulate the relation between teacher and students and the boundaries between studios and public space more flexible. Within these modules new channels have been explored that merge somatic  and movement knowledge as well as social knowledge production.
