Residency for Katerina Andreou

Residency for Katerina Andreou

As part of his prize, the Prix Jardin d’Europe laureate 2016 Katerina Andreou was invited to an artistic residency in the frame of ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival:
Katerina Andreou was on the residency from 16 to 23 July 2017 to work on her latest solo production “BSTRD” that premiered in Athens on 28 and 29 January 2018, the artist Lynda Rahal supported her as an outside eye. “BSTRD“ is a solo performance, based on the notion of multiplicity and hybridisation: if the idea of purity is an illusion and everything was made of a much more complicated and crossing material, how can I observe the already made crossbreeding or even carefully monitor hybridization? Is there any chance to have a pure impurity in that process? Is it possible to use bastardy as a process and to arrive to a unique object where the importance shall not be placed on the question of the origin but on that of the function? What would this bastardy do? Finally, can it arrive to originality though avoiding reference? How will “BSTRD” seek for its own legitimacy? Inspired among other performative gestures by House culture's practice of amalgamation, I am interested on developing a physicality that seeks the paradox of pure impurity, plus on the creation of a vinyl as the only scenography, the only partner and the only medium of the political and poetic discourse of a bastardised figure, free of all enclosure and codification, but full of desire to belong.
