residency for Júlia Hadi & Virág Arany at Ultima Vez studios Brussels

Chosen by the network partner Workshop Foundation, Júlia Hadi and Virág Arany (working under their artistic name Body Lotion co-dance )had a residency from December 4 to 16, 2013 at the Ultima Vez studios Brussels, hosted by Ultima Vez.
They used the residency to work on their latest production “StepinTime”. Júlia Hadi and Virág Arany have been working together since 2009. In their previous works “Hear it?”, “Mon usine”, “Traffic goes this way” and “Bodyscape”, their principal was to create such realities where movement, sound and visual have an equal role on stage as well as in the creative process. In their newest creation “S t e p i n T i m e”, the starting point was everyday movement, and finding a choreographic approach that draws up philosophical dilemmas of presence in time and presence in change.

he form is minimalist, functional, undecorated. The basic instant of movement that creates the basic instant of time is one step. By repetition it becomes walking. By little alterations of the tempo and quality of the steps the walking becomes all different sorts of motion: marching, running, jumping, changing also the character of the performers, that creates a ground for association to the viewer. Through following the constantly changing repetition of steps the audience can experience and reflect on their own perception of time.

The other main theme of the piece is synchronicity. The two performers hold each others‘s hands through the whole length of the performance, working with the same principles and changing together, at the same time. Emphasising thus the details of movement and individual differences.
