Critical Practice (Made in Yu) at BITEF Festival in Belgrade

A Problematic Book is a book of texts and notes created in the frame of Critical Practice (Made in Yu) programme during 2015 and 2016. There are critical reflexions on performances, events, festivals and all those phenomena that the authors recognized as significant and potent for the field of contemporary performing arts.  From there a concept of „problematic“ occured to sharpen a critical discourse while we are observing contemporary performing arts as a space of theory, art practice and cultural policy in their interdependance.

The book consists of critical writings and interviews preceded by an introduction written by another member of the group. With this the authors wanted to underline the inner structure of the group and their working method showcasing collaboration, collective reflection and critical dialogue. Beside that, there is a lexicon of terms that popped up as „problematic points“ that needed to be redefine and requestioned in order to enhence requestioning of proper knowledge, statements and postions, which is a base for critical thinking. The contributions of another text by Bojana Cvejić and an interview of Ana Vujanović with Mårten Spångberg help to contextualize and actualize the work of Critical Practice group.

Authors and editors are Ida Daniel, Kristof Farkas, Shir Hacham,  Aisling Marks, Stina Nyrberg, Livia Andrea Piazza,Ana Schnabl.

The book is published by Station Service for contemporary dance from Belgrade. The programme is created and realized by Station Service for contemporary dance and Lokomotiva Center for new initiatives in arts and culture as members of Nomad Dance Academy and partners of Life Long Burning.
