Award Ceremony Casinos Austria Prix Jardin d'Europe & FM4 Fan Award 2015

The Casinos Austria Prix Jardin d'Europe 2015 was awarded in the frame of the [8:tension] - Young Choreographers' Series of the ImPulsTanz - Vienna International Dance Festival.
It is endowed with EUR 10.000,- and an artistic residency. An international dance and performance expert jury consisting of Faustin Linyekula, Sigrid Gareis and Ivo Dimchev was selecting the winner 2015 out of the following nominations:
MAARTEN SEGHERS & THE HORRIBLE FACTS (BE)
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT DO YOU MEAN AND OTHER PLEASANTRIES"
ELINA PIRINEN (FI)
"PERSONAL SYMPHONIC MOMENT"
ELISABETH B. TAMBWE (AT/FR/CD)
"SYMPOSIUM"
VOLMIR CORDEIRO (FR/BR)

"HINOKI"
ANA RITA TEODORO (FR/PT)
"SHADE (FANTÔME MÉCHANT)"
JOÃO DOS SANTOS MARTINS (PT)

"SORROW SWAG"
RITA VILHENA (NL/PT)
"EMERGENCY PLAN"

"EXPLICIT CONTENT"

The jury chose two artists to be equally awarded with the prize of 10,000 Euro and an artistic residency within ImPulsTanz 2016:

Elina Pirinen (FI) for her production Personal Symphonic Moment
€5,000 and Artistic Residency

Ligia Lewis (DE/DO) for her production Sorrow Swag
€5,000 and Artistic Residency

Moreover, the winners have been honoured with a prize sculpture by the artist Deborah Sengl.

The jury members – dance experts Ivo Dimchev, Sigrid Gareis and Faustin Linyekula Ngoya – stated the reasons of their decision not to award only a single performance as follows:

“We weren’t trying to find a masterpiece. We didn’t even want to find one. Instead we were hoping to find an artist with a strong voice whose artistic future will be worth looking forward to. Two pieces – especially their sense of movement, text and sound and lighting design – particularly caught our attention. They both showed a profound understanding of what they are doing and are very advanced in shaping their intentions. The decision to split the award is based on the extreme differences between the chosen performances – regarding content, method, concept, technique and choreography. The pieces of both Elina Pirinen and Ligia Lewis are promising a bright future of a young generation of choreographers. Their structure and their dramaturgic clarity is not yet perfect, and doesn’t have to be.”

Beyond the jury award, the public and the fan community had the chance to reward the most interesting, mean, humorous, charming or even morose promotion clips that [8:tension] artists created specially for this purpose with the radio FM4 Fan Award. The online voting took place between July 4 and August 15 on the ImPulsTanz website.

The artist that received the most votes and thus the FM4 Fan Award 2015 is the Belgium-based Austrian choreographer and dancer Simon Mayer (AT).

He was honoured with a suitcase – in line with the international genre – and a goody bag designed by the FM4 editorial staff.
