Liz Santoro "We Do Our Best"
Willy Prager "The Victory Day" (LLB recommendation)

Marta Navaridas & Alex Deutinger "Speaking Of Which"
Mariana Tengner Barros / Eira "The Trap"
Rodrigo Sobarzo de Larraechea "Apnea"(LLB recommendation)
Zeina Hanna "Never Live Twice” (LLB recommendation)

The introduction statement by the curatorial team explain the choice for [8:tension] 2013 as follows:

“Never live twice! Not that you could, but if there’s one thing live performances are good for, it’s this: to demonstrate that only the present matters. Now, here, today we meet (up with) one another in the theatre: a close-knit, if temporary, community. Nothing can take this moment away from us – “when the lights go down” – and those enchanting beings appear on stage. They are of flesh and blood, you can almost hear their heartbeat, and yet they are like nightly creatures from an underworld: they beguile us, tell us about a small, everyday occurrence, and in the process lead us to questions about life and death. They conduct the elements, their minimal movements are capable of breaking up, even conquering space and time. They let us see things that may not even be there. They challenge us with strange actions, bury the noise under the earth and let go of all restrictive norms. A woman is a man is a woman and a lot more beyond that. Everyone has a right to excess and a questionable taste in music. Here we may live out desires and get dangerously close to abysses and traps.

Here we may long for fulfilment and – oh! – rub ourselves against the breaking of taboos.

We only live once – the intensity with which we do it is up to us. But rest assured: this year’s [8:tension] Young Choreographers’ Series has a lot to contribute in this respect.”
During their two-weeks residency the artists could make use of the offered studio and follow their current research as well as visit performances of the ImPulsTanz festival. Each performance was presented twice in the festival and was nominated for the European prize for emerging choreography, the Prix Jardin d’Europe 2013.
