danceWEB Mentor 2016
Tino Sehgal | Germany / UK
The dancer, choreographer and prominent visual artist Tino Sehgal accepted the mentorship of the danceWEB Scholarship Programme 2016. On top, the artist will extend next year's ImPulsTanz festival workshop programme by a series dedicated to the interrelations between dance and visual arts.
Tino Sehgal studied dance and political economy, his works are live situations that can be encountered during the entire opening hours of galeries and museums. These constructed situations can develop differently depending on the comportment of the visitor, thereby integrating an element of participation into the works own structure. In 2005 he represented Germany at the German Pavillon in Venice, recent monographic exhibitions include the Guggenheim Museum, New York in 2010, Tate Modern in 2012, Ullens Center, Beijing in 2013, CCBB, Rio de Janeiro in 2014, Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin and Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam both in 2015. In 2013 he was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale.
"Central aspects of dancing have always been social, ritualistic and providing of a sense of community. This is practised and celebrated in a very contemporary way in Vienna with danceWEB and its extremely diverse workshop program. I am looking forward to contribute and participate in it next summer."
